This appears to be a side-effect of changes made to mitigate a security vulnerability, <http://www.openoffice.org/security/cves/CVE-2015-4551.html>. The immediate remedy was to always require user confirmation of access to external material. Adjustments may be needed to have this work more smoothly without lowering the barrier to such exploits.
