It is not clear how to convert the cell formatting to Number for a cell range
containing a combination of formats (e.g. Number and Currency).
When selecting a range of cells of mixed formats, and then Format - Cells, it
would be expected to see the category as something like "Mixed"; such that the
user a) knows that the formatting is mixed, and b) can change the formatting of
the cells to "Number".
Currently, the only way to change the formatting of a mixed selection of cells
(e.g. containing a combination of empty Number and Currency cells) to Number is
to temporarily change the cells to another format (e.g. Scientific), then
change them back to the Number format.
