This is very strange.

If you receive a message that a document is in use when you attempt to open it,
this often indicates that the document was not closed fully a previous time and
the lock marker (a file) that Apache OpenOffice placed there has not been
removed. It should not matter whether you are in Safe Mode or not. Those
"lock" files have the same name as the document file except "~lock." is added
on the front and a "#" is added at the end. See if you have any of those, and
delete them.

In the properties for a Windows folder, you will often see a black square for
the read-only attribute. That just means "some" files are read only. For
individual files, check the properties for those files. If you can't clear a
read-only flag on a file, it may be that you are not using the account that
created the file. You may need to be administrator to change it in that case.

It can also be that Windows did not clear a lock that it set when a document
was opened for editing. These are part of how the file system works.
Sometimes it is necessary to completely power down and then start up the
Windows PC to have all of those locks cleared.

Also, you should always be logged in under the same account when creating and
using Apache OpenOffice documents.
