Both Microsoft Word 2010 and LibreOffice 5.1 do manage to render it properly. Also, please note that once Microsoft Word 2010 has been used to convert the document to Open Document Text (ODT) the list is displayed properly by OpenOffice, including the image bullet. The resulting ODT file is also much, much smaller (~38KB).
