PFS Prep File - Hook Mountain Massacre Part 5
The same old story with the mysterious crashing tables, except in this one, the
file loads all the way up to the point of editing, but in the instant that it
places focus in the offending table, the program crashes. If it would stay
open long enough for me to delete the table, I could start it over again and
try a different solution to adding the table, but as it is I can't physically
edit the file to remove the table and get the file working again.
As the problem doesn't tend to duplicate across computers, I'm probably going
to send it to a buddy and get him to delete the table for me. Until then,
here's the file in question; maybe someone else can make the program crash for
them upon loading the file, but for me, it's crashing 100% of the time. I
wrote the file in 4.1.1, and upgraded to 4.1.2 hoping it was a bug that had
been fixed. No such luck; crashes without fail in both versions.
Environment: Pentium 3 (E5300 Wolfdale); 4 GB of RAM running on single channel
(some of the chips have long since burned out, I'm running the system on fumes
at this point); nVidia graphics driver (GeForce 9500 GT with outdated drivers);
Vista 64; only one user profile (admin access, home box, no password); Western
Digital 500 GB hard drive; Texas A&M football schedule wallpaper.
P.S. This issue with tables has happened for me numerous times in the past,
under various circumstances; editing text, playing with formatting, adding and
removing lines, changing dimensions, each and every tiny thing can crash the
program. Typically, I had been able to remove the issue in question, start
over, and get the table to work right. With this one, I can't even edit the
file because the file itself crashes the program now. It should be noted that
the tables were always pasted in from a website (either d20pfsrd or Archives of
Nethys), so I'm aware that bad formatting and bad parsing are causing the
program grief. Pasting the tables doesn't always cause the problem, as long as
I post only the table itself; if I post a block of text with a table in the
middle, always crashes, 100% of the time. The table itself, only rarely. The
tables also don't always cause crashes, so I'm careful not to use them at all,
but every so often will light the program up. This is the first time a file
has been rendered broken and corrupted by a table to the point that I can't
edit it. I spent ten hours on the file and that's ten hours I don't feel like
replicating.
