column not summed, notes in red within spreadsheet
Dear Open Office
Here is a spreadsheet that does not add up! I have tried varying, correcting,
everything, with FORMAT,CELLS,xxx. But nothing seems to fix the error. AK7 to
AP7 is a final set of checks to show errors if columns/rows do not add up!
Examine column AF cells 29 to 49. The SUM shows 0 instead of 22. Examine column
W. This is a copy (CTRL-C, CTRL-V) of the offending cells. Still 0. Then I
physically re-typed the numbers over themselves. Still 0.
I have altered the cell formatting several times without affecting the result.
This is not an isolated fault, it has occurred several times but this time I
have saved it for you to examine.
The only solution has been to re-enter the contents into another column then
copy those numbers over the problematic cells.
I have been using spreadsheets since the eighties & programmed for over 40
years so I am reasonably competent in these matters. This has me completely
puzzled. I long for the WordPerfect feature in both spreadsheet & text document
that displays structural data so that one can see what is causing an effect
that is unwanted. This seems such a simple solution to many problems & I have
written to you about implementing it, without success. Perhaps this problem
will help convince you that it would be, if not useful, a feature reducing user
complaints because they could then see & fix their own problems.
