[Issue 127557] I click on save as, the drop down box does not contain all my files and I cannot save into anything w/o going through about 5 steps. I want the old way save as worked because it was fast and easy

Next time, please provide a screenshot to show what you described.
Sound like a wrong parameter for Open/Save dialogs.
Menu Tools > Options > OpenOffice > General
(Un)Check Use OpenOffice dialogs
