After just coming from the forums, I learned that other users with window
resizing apps (such as Magnet and BetterTouchTools) installed had Fatal Error
problems like I did. Deleting the app solved their problems. I realized I have
RightZoom installed, which serves a similar function. I added OpenOffice to the
exclusions list (so that RightZoom will work in all apps except OO), and my
problems disappeared (I was just trying to drag images into a document, but
it's irrelevant what I was trying to do, because the error has popped up for me
before in so many different situations).
And so, I've come to the conclusion that OO has a conflict with apps that are
designed to resize windows.
