--- Comment #6 from John <[email protected]> --- (In reply to Peter from comment #3) > I have a hard time to believe this helps OpenOffice. And it does not help > this Issue. I suggest you write that rather in facebook. That is better place. I was working on the basis that, as you may not be aware, LO is a fork of OOo, and much code will presumably still be common especially as there has been relatively little development of AOO in recent years. I read the LO tender results which say: "When images are used in LibreOffice documents, the software manages them in a “life-cycle” which includes importing, displaying, modifying, exporting and more. To save memory – especially with large documents – images that are not currently on screen are sometimes moved out of memory and saved onto disk in a technique known as “swapping” or “paging”. The goal of the tender was to improve LibreOffice in these areas, making it more efficient at handling images and modernising the code base." That seemed to me to be sufficiently applicable to AOO to bring it to the developers' attention especially "modernising the code base". Let me suggest that you visit the forum (where I am a volunteer with thousands of posts) and search with los* images. You will find you get 338 threads of which this is typical: Images disappear leaving icon of 3 squares and dots at https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=93725&hilit=los%2A+images IT has been read over 3,000 times. The similar Disappearing pictures in Impress has been read 4,800 times. We have to try and help users who are distraught at having lost work through no fault of their own. If you go to [Tutorial] Some useful hints on using images (I wrote it) at https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=86682 and read item "16. Lost images ... and a word of caution about using AutoRecovery. LibreOffice 6.1 may now be better than AOO" you will see that I am now telling users "LO 6.1 has recently (2018/2019) rewritten the image handling code to prevent image loss and LO may therefore now be better than AOO". In the report I wrote "Common Writer problems as seen by forum posts" (Issue 126846 - Analysis Task: Major Recurring Data/Operation Loss/Corruption Situations at https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126846 you will see "Item 3. My document has lost all its graphics". Image loss in AOO is real and is happening repeatedly. I reported Issue 126970 - Lost images while editing a Writer .odt file - two scenarios at https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126970 and Issue 125490 - Writer 4.1.1 very slow with large images, locks up with zoom out on 2 page view at https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=125490 There appears to be a severe problem with AOO image handling especially in Writer and Impress. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the issue.
