--- Comment #2 from Muhammed Ibrahim <[email protected]> ---
Based on my understanding of your description, you were not able to open nested
folders because the `open` dialog for opening existing files closes before you
get to the file. And you specified that you ran it on a Mac OS X 10.8, and
using Open Office 3.4.1.

I attempted to reproduce the issue on a Mac OS 10.13.4 and Open Office 3.4.1
and was not successful in reproducing the issue. To be specific, here are my
steps:
- I created a folder named “Bolton” on my desktop; I created another folder in
the “Bolton” folder, and moved an existing .odt file that I have to the
  folder that was just created.
- I launched Open Office Writer 3.4.1.
- Clicked on File > Open > “Bolton” folder on Desktop > Clicked on sub folder >
  and select .odt file.
- The file opened.

In order to get more clarity on the issue, it will be helpful if you provided
more information like:
- How many subdirectories.
- The length of the folder name.
- The kind of directory structure.
- The file you’re attempting to open.
- And your system information like RAM size, processor.
- Or better still, share a visual proof i.e. a video of the issue.
