The current framework is designed around the old non-rolling upgrade model
where read requests do not require a version, and write requests will only
occasionally need to opt-in to versioning. With ZDU, all new OM requests will
require a version. The framework should allow unit tests to statically enforce
this requirement, and ideally be implemented using plain java to remove our
aspectj dependency. It should also continue to support old clients which also
require request version checks.
