Prince Raj created HDDS-17471:
---------------------------------
Summary: OpenSSL Cipher Fails to Load Due to
UnsatisfiedLinkError: EVP_CIPHER_CTX_block_size
Key: HDDS-17471
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDDS-17471
Project: Apache Ozone
Issue Type: Bug
Reporter: Prince Raj
h3. Description
During encrypted file write operations, the client repeatedly logs the
following warning:
{{WARN crypto.OpensslCipher: Failed to load OpenSSL Cipher.}}
This is followed by the exception:
{{java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: EVP_CIPHER_CTX_block_size}}
The error occurs while initializing the OpenSSL cipher through
{{OpensslCipher.initIDs}} and creating the encryption codec.
h3. Steps to Reproduce
# Configure encryption for file write operations.
# Write a file using the client.
# Observe the logs during encrypted output stream initialization.
h3. Actual Result
The OpenSSL native cipher fails to load due to {{{}UnsatisfiedLinkError:
EVP_CIPHER_CTX_block_size{}}}. The client appears to fall back to Java-based
cryptography, but the warning and associated error are logged repeatedly during
encrypted writes.
h3. Expected Result
* The native OpenSSL cipher should load successfully when the environment
supports it.
* If native OpenSSL is unavailable or incompatible and Java-based cryptography
is a supported fallback, the client should fall back gracefully without
unnecessarily noisy warning stack traces.
h3. Logs
{{WARN crypto.OpensslCipher: Failed to load OpenSSL Cipher.
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: EVP_CIPHER_CTX_block_size}}
*Additional Information:* The issue was observed during encrypted file write
testing. The complete output log can be attached for further investigation.
