(when old client tries to overwrite its own key).
@adoroszlai the OM crash happens in the upgrade acceptance test after
downgrading to 1.1.0. We didn't check the xcompat tests but it looks like the
bug this patch fixes may have caused issues there too. Maybe we want to add
overwrite to those tests as well?
