Resolution: Duplicate
Thanks [~smeng] for reporting this. I should have searched before creating
HDDS-9873. It turns out this is not specific to Java 17 (or other version),
rather the way our _compile_ check works vs. the regular _build_ check
(compiles from source tarball vs. git repo). Please take a look at the root
cause (HADOOP-19011) and my [proposed workaround in
Ozone|https://github.com/apache/ozone/pull/5785].
