Follow-up for 11b6e6c19: the public variant_select_fields API now reuses the same NumPy-based object-layout parser as batch variant_get. On the same read-only 2,128-row Arrow batch with 200 selected top-level fields, interleaved A/B measured 3.6532/3.6452 s before vs. 1.6262/1.6292 s after (about 2.24x faster for the selection/decoding stage). Every selected Python value and type matched. This does not include table planning or Parquet I/O. The two APIs remain distinct: variant_get returns exact-typed Arrow columns; variant_select_fields preserves heterogeneous encoded types as Python values for callers that perform their own conversion. 220 local Variant tests pass, including identical metadata with different object layouts. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
