As discussed briefly on the [mailing list](https://lists.apache.org/thread/prb14l5t90skcw9oy1fnotor1n3x82xj), the specification is rather loose when discussing the BYTE_ARRAY and FIXED_LEN_BYTE_ARRAY primitive types, often referring to them instead as "binary".
