Ok ... I just pushed a change, that might help resolve this issue :-)
So I've added a "pingAddress" which defaults to 0x40001 (Holding Register
1). It will use this to do the ping operation. If the default causes problems
with your modbus device, you can simply override it in the connection string by
providing a "ping-address={someotheraddress}" option.
