Yeah @dimas-b summarized my thoughts well. As a catalog admin, I might feel assured that not even those with access to the root principal can rotate credentials. Plus, as I noted in my comment, eventually I'd actually like to see us extend this capability to principles other than root! Besides this rationale, I'm also just a fan of flagging changes so that service admins can keep from exercising new code paths should some regression appear. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
