Since version 3.13.0 Maven Compiler Plugin
[accepts|https://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-compiler-plugin/examples/set-compiler-release.html#usage-on-jdk-8]
{{maven.compiler.release}} for JDK 8, using profiles is no longer necessary.
