I'm happy to review + merge PRs implementing either (although I am not sure with this level of discussion on the ticket we will get any contributions for these functions). I still prefer having the GEOS functions + integration tests implemented first so that we can measure the relative performance of the geo algorithm when we implement it. Most geo algorithms are faster but there has been at least one case (prepared geometry) where the cost of creating the GEOS object still resulted in better performance.
