FWIW, I've found that to use metrics for real (not a POC), you really need to
ask Solr for precisely the metrics you want, and nothing else. Otherwise you
end up polling Solr for megabytes of metrics that overwhelms "real" traffic.
This isn't to say that the issue you raised here isn't a problem, of course.
