I had issues going to 3.9.0, but 3.8.0 seemed to work with minimal pain. I
tested locally with Java 16, but would feel more comfortable if there was a way
to run this through [~uschindler]'s full version suite before committing. Or I
can just watch for failures after commit if that's fine with folks.
