Cassandra Targett commented on SOLR-15556:
------------------------------------------
Also, the latest branch build on nightlies now includes links to all previous
Ref Guide versions in the component picker in the bottom left under the Guide
section nav:
https://nightlies.apache.org/solr/draft-guides/solr-reference-guide-antora/solr/9.0.0/index.html
This is hard-coded in there which IMO is fine since it doesn't need to be
updated. The other versions will be automatically added as we release them. I
didn't go with a pull-down in the header or anything like that because as soon
as we have more than 1 version there will be a version pull-down that will
automatically appear in the same row as the breadcrumbs & "edit this page" link
which will take users to the same page in other versions. I figured two
"version" pull-downs in the same general area was too much.

> The final step of my grand vision for redesigning the Ref Guide is to look at
> replacing Jekyll with a different static site generator.
> The primary reason why is because Jekyll is designed for blog posts, not for
> sites with hundreds of static pages like ours. Back in 2017 when I chose it,
> it was relatively straightforward to implement, a lot of information was
> available in Jekyll docs and the internet in general to customize it, and it
> was one of the few that supported Asciidoc format.
> However now there are a lot more options, including some which are
> specifically designed for large multi-version documentation sites like the
> Ref Guide.
> Included with this will be reorganizing the on-disk organization of the ref
> guide files themselves.
