Sorry for the very slow response on this.
When I search for [https://my-solr/solr/], I can login no problem and I wont
get any redirects, which is why https doesn't stop working.
If I search for [https://my-solr/] though, then I will be redirected to
[http://my-solr/solr/] which is when I lose my secure connection.
