I read the above discussion. I sympathize with the motivations of the issue but
there has been no energy to see this API thru to fruition. {*}I will remove it
from main on Monday, November 11th{*}, subject to objections/feedback. It
should have been removed prior to 9.0, alas.
Instead, I'd like to see improvements to DocCollection etc. in-place as we get
close to a major release (now). I'm doing ClusterState changes; nothing too
exciting but it's something and now's the time.
