[~epugh] perhaps you could try using the benchmark module for this? I found it 
useful for testing the ExitableDirectoryReader, it's awkward at times but other 
than that it simplifies a lot the setup and the test data generation. Take a 
look at `ExitableDirectoryReaderSearch`.
