Chris M. Hostetter commented on SOLR-18203:
-------------------------------------------

I have not reviewed the linked PR in depth, but in general this seems like a
dup of SOLR-17764 ?

It's been long enough now that I no longer have clear mental picture of what's
going on, nor will i pretend to – i'm just trusting that the words & log
messages past me posted are accurate – but my general impression is to agree
with the choice past me made at the time...
{quote}Since it sounds like a 9.9 release is likely to happen this week, and we
have no yet been able agree on what the SolrJ is  currently doing (let alone
have a discussion about what it _should_ be doing) I change the default value
of  {{SOLR_JETTY_GRACEFUL}} in {{bin/solr}} to false, out of an abundance of
caution to avoid impacting existing users.

I did *NOT* revert any of the changes to JettySolrRunner, in the hopes that we
can move _forward_ with a discussion of the nature of these failures and how to
improve Solr/SolrJ
{quote}
...but since that discussion completely stalled w/o the participants involved
being able to agree on the objective facts of what the code and/or log messages
actually said, I am certainly fine if people who are currently more
involved/engaged want to rip out all testing of {{SOLR_JETTY_GRACEFUL}}

> This test has been flaky for a long time, but lately it has been failing
> almost every time. Last 7 days it failed on 16/19 runs, that's a 82% failure
> rate, see fucit: http://fucit.org/solr-jenkins-reports/failure-report.html
