David Smiley commented on SOLR-17855:
-------------------------------------

Solr's test classpath silently has Dropwizard metrics-core:3.2.5, pulled in
transitively via:

{noformat}
  org.apache.curator:curator-test:5.9.0
    └── io.dropwizard.metrics:metrics-core:3.2.5
{noformat}

Yeah I agree we'll eventually want ZK's metrics, even if it's dropwizard based.
 An unstated goal of this JIRA issue that Matt and I have at work (we're
colleagues FYI) is to ensure someone +embedding+ Solr doesn't need dropwizard
metrics. That was accomplished. It'd be _nice_ to reduce Solr's overall
runtime dependencies as well, wherever it's reasonable to do so.

I'll throw up a PR to unblock this matter. It'll simply add dropwizard-metrics
as a runtime only dependency to a module that relates to packaging the
distribution.  Details TBD; PR soon.
