The changes here have not been backported to 10.x. I suspect they _should_ be?
There's a 4-PR chain of dependent PRs stemming from here... and I'm seeing
people likely forget to backport or see difficulty because a dependent PR
hasn't been ported yet... so there's an ~invisible backlog.
New as of this weekend: I'm taking on backporting for anyone who opt's in –
just tag a PR with the proper "Milestone" of the final destination branch and
I'll get to the 10.x backport fairly soon. But old PRs may need some prodding
as my system won't know someone added a milestone to a month+ old PR.
