🤖 *AI text below* 🤖 *(posted on behalf of Nick Shanin)* https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-17539 After upgrading to Solr 9.6, users reported increased memory usage traced to the DocValues iterator reuse cache: wide `fl` globs (e.g. `fl=*`) pin iterators in the cache that the query never benefits from. This adds a `query.enableDocValuesIteratorCache` option in `solrconfig.xml` (default `true`, preserving current behavior). When disabled, `SolrDocumentFetcher` / `RealTimeGetComponent` bypass the new `DocValuesIteratorCache` for DocValues field loading, so wide field-list queries no longer pay the cache's memory cost. The option is exposed through the Config API (`EditableSolrConfigAttributes.json`) and documented in the ref guide (caches-warming, config-api); both bundled configsets set it explicitly. Tests: new `TestDocValuesIteratorCache` — green with Error Prone (4m16s); `SolrCoreTest` / `TestConfigOverlay` coverage for the config plumbing. Changelog: `changelog/unreleased/SOLR-17539.yml` (added) ### AI assistance AI agents assisted with research, implementation, review, and drafting.
