Thanks for your reply Sean,I followed the online docs for the build on a clean
14.04 and 16.04 Ubuntu image. In both cases with the current oracle java jre
installed and hadoop 2.6.4 (binaries) in place. All initial dependencies were
apt-get installed from the standard upstream repositories.
I've since moved to use the supplied binaries but the failed build approach
remains an itch, so if you have any thoughts I'm happy to re-run the
builds.Pete

I can't reproduce this. How are you building; what are you following? the SBT
builds clearly pass.
