it looks like there is generally about 6 months between releases so at least it
won't be a frequent change. If there is concern over the load on the archive
mirrors I'm fine with leaving it for now and then discussing more the next time
we hit it.
The downside is any of the older branches also don't work unless you patch
them, but the user can simply workaround by either going to archive and
installing themselves or updating the dev build script.
