This duplicates SPARK-13857. Please feel free to comment on that JIRA. There
are some other considerations to simply adding the methods. For example, how
(or if) to integrate with {{transform}} and pipeline / cross-validation. Also,
using dataframes opens up a solution naturally to SPARK-10802, etc
