Our current type annotation has not been polished. We have some wrong or
misleading annotations, as well as some unnecessary type ignores.
This is a large task that I will be working on from time to time. The goal is
to minimize `type: ignore` in our code base and provide correct, precise and
helpful type annotations to the end users.
