Resolved by [~peiffer] as part of [https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/56741]
Merged to master

branch-4.x had some merge conflicts, [~peiffer] please take a look and address
(in case you wanted to include this change in 4.3 as well)
Also, the Jira ticket has an issue: `User 'peiffer' cannot be assigned issues.`
