Hyukjin Kwon created SPARK-61054:
------------------------------------
Summary: Take the arguments of spark.range and of the table-valued
functions of spark.tvf in the Python client as PySpark does
Key: SPARK-61054
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SPARK-61054
Project: Spark
Issue Type: Bug
Components: Connect
Affects Versions: connect-rust-4.3.0
Reporter: Hyukjin Kwon
In PySpark Connect, {{spark.range(start, end, step, numPartitions)}} and
{{spark.tvf.range}} take the {{int()}} of their arguments, such as
{{spark.range("3")}} and {{spark.range(2.7)}}. The functions of {{spark.tvf}},
such as {{explode}}, {{inline}}, {{json_tuple}} and {{stack}}, take Columns or
column names, as {{F._to_col}} does, else {{NOT_EXPECTED_TYPE}} of {{col}}.
The Rust-backed Python client raises a {{TypeError}} for arguments of {{range}}
that are not ints, and takes the arguments of {{spark.tvf}} as literals:
{{spark.tvf.json_tuple(json, "a")}} takes the string "a" rather than the column
{{a}}, and {{spark.tvf.explode([1, 2])}} explodes an array of the list rather
than raising. Take them as PySpark does.
