BTW this line goes away in SPARK-7733 when we update to Java 7. I had held off 
merging that to master just while we're dealing with 1.4, but it could go in 
now. If that's really all there is to it you could consider it a subset of that 
issue, at least for 1.5. For prior branches, yeah, I don't know -- do we often 
have corrupted jars? this is intended to catch a Java 6 corner case.
