A user seems to be hitting https://github.com/EsotericSoftware/kryo/issues/462,
which is fixed in Kryo 4.
We should upgrade. It seems like we can ensure compatibility with current Kryo
by setting kryo.getFieldSerializerConfig().setOptimizedGenerics(true), going by
the Kryo 4 release notes.
