Our rules around supported releases are a bit flexible.
While the website is discouraging use of 1.8.x, we might still be making one
last 1.8.x release. There are currently two backport nominations on this branch
still:

The 1.10 line is fairly new and in practice many servers will still be running
1.8 releases for some time so critical bug fixes might still happen if users
want them.
