Issue Type: FEATURE
Summary: Word Count NEEDS to be changed
Classification: Application
Product: Word processor
Version: OOo 3.3
Platform: Macintosh
OS/Version: Mac OS X
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Priority: P3
Component: configuration
AssignedTo: [email protected]

It has come to my attention that Open Office counts "smart quotes" as word in
the word counting feature. This led to confusion and it took me a while, plus
an internet forum posting, to figure out why I kept going over my word limit
for a project I was working on.
On the internet forum, other writers complained because they do NaNoWriMo
(National Novel Writing Month), a very popular international contest in which
you have to write a novel in a month. When they entered their text at the
NaNoWriMo website, they were hugely discouraged to learn they were thousands of
words short of the necessary word count.
By counting smart quotes as a word, it just leads to unnecessary confusion.
Please change it. Thanks.
