          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows XP
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Priority: P2

NOTE
While typing this issue, I discovered why the drag text selection in
OpenOffice.org Writer doesn't work properly... or should I say badly coded.

INFO
-Windows XP Pro 32bit SP3 (all updates)
-OpenOffice.org 3.3.0 (latest)

PROBLEM
When I select/highlight text with my mouse and want to drag the selection
(left-mouse-click in the selection and move away) it worked only 1% of the
time... O_o

PROBLEM DETAILS
I discovered that it was related to my drag distance, which is set at 30 pixels
(via PowerToys Tweak UI) Why you may ask? Simply because I was tired of
dragging whole folders/e-mail/files in Explorer, Outlook, etc. by mistake.
Anyway...

If you're asking: "Why report this as a bug if it's your settings?" Please read
on.

BUG
a. The drag distance SHOULD NOT be an issue because once a selection is made,
Writer SHOULD recognize that the left-mouse-click & hold of the selection
means DRAG, like in Calc. No matter how far my drag starts. It may be a detail,
but it doesn't change the fact that it's badly implemented/coded. Firefox (or
any other application, including Calc) recognize the drag action and respect
the drag distance set by Windows OR the user.

b. In OOo Calc, the drag behave exactly like it should, even with my drag
settings starting at 30 pixels from the initial click. Please correct/implement
the same drag behavior/code in Writer.

c. Because of my drag settings, I was able to find more details on the way
Writer handles the drag action and I hope this helps the coders fix this.

The drag click AND drag distance must be WITHIN the selection. This is the bug.
By default, Windows drag is less than a few pixels (actually 4, I think), so it
explains why the population or "normal" users out there didn't report/see this
problem (or simply couldn't find anything related to this).

SUMMARY
Right now, I can only select and drag text by moving my mouse INSIDE the
selection, which must be less than 4 characters long, as I need 30 pixels
(horizontally only) to start dragging text.

OOo Calc dragging feature works properly though. This is a simple lack of
homogeneity of code/feature between Calc and Writer. I haven't tested any other
OOo programs as I mostly only Calc & Writer.

Thank you!
Sirus
