Issue Type: FEATURE
Summary: New feature: booklet facing pages hold aligned
corresponding text; facing pages text treated as
single text stream
Classification: Application
Product: Word processor
Version: OOo 3.3 RC10
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows Vista
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P3
Component: configuration
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
QAContact: [email protected]
Feature request: writer
system tested: OO 3.3.0, OOO330m20 build 9567 on MS Vista & MS Windows 7, OO
3.2 on current (June 10, 2011) Ubuntu LTS
New feature: booklet facing pages hold aligned corresponding text; facing pages
text treated as single text stream
Driving concern: translation or commentary for printed booklets
Caution: This may be breaking all the rules: clarity (problem not clearly
defined), inclusions (none), brief description, separate reports (possibly
multiple issues), vote old issues rather than create new (this may be a
restatement of issues 109523 and 17960).
Provide facility (mode of operation), for text flow purposes, but not for
formatting or page layout purposes, to treat facing pages as a single entity.
Thus, headers, footers, margins including gutter, footnotes, pagination, and
booklet printing would act as they now do (tied to the page), while text,
headings, tables, text boxes, objects would span the facing page pair as a
single unit. Centering horizontally would span the pair, leaving empty text
area distributed equally to left of left (even) page and right of right (odd)
page. Table columns would be distributed over the text area of the facing page
pair. Objects would similarly be interrupted at gutter margins to continue at
corresponding location on facing page.
What I envision is (something like) a [two|n]-column table for aligning
corresponding text, with each table column standing alone on its page (when two
columns only), and its mate opposite it on the facing page. I imagine that, in
this mode, the pair of facing pages would be treated for text flow purposes as
the equivalent of a single page, with subsequent material flowing to subsequent
facing page pairs.
