Progress is fairly vague at this point, since we don't know how long individual
tasks run for, how far they've completed while they're running etc.
It would be good for the two to be consistent though. FWIW, the task based
approach is likely to be a smoother progress increment.
Looks like we do fetch progress information fairly often - on each RPC call ?
