Hitesh Shah commented on TEZ-3288:
----------------------------------
"Backend responded with an error" is too generic and probably not something
useful for the user as a first level message especially if the required details
are below the fold. Additionally, why are we distinguishing between the UI
frontend and the backend? In which scenario would the frontend throw an error?
A 404 clearly indicates the entity is not found so we can provide a more clear
message in that regard. Additionally, this may happen sometimes due to an ATS
lag so we can probably inform the user about that.
The AM replying with a not current DAG is an error which should never be
exposed to a user. This means that the dag has completed and the UI should
redirect to ATS.
Some suggestions:
- if it is a 404: lets clarify what data was not found and from where.
- if a 500: lets clarify what call failed.
- if the call failed or timed out as the service is unavailable or slow, a
different error message denoting that would be good.
If anyone of the above require any further actions by the user - wait due to
ATS delay, refresh etc - we should call those out too.
This would be a good time to start setting up the tez wiki with an FAQ with
links set up in the UI.
