I guess I don't quite understand what you are saying. What exactly are you
proposing here, and what does it have to do with stats? Do you want stats on
how often it dropped something ? That seems reasonable, and presumably be a
help to find bugs in log collation (it clearly should not drop entries
silently). One would argue though, if it knows it dropped something, and it
updated metrics for this, why is it not trying to send that log entry again
(either on the wire on to disk)?
