I still need to do some more testing, but setting
{code}
CONFIG proxy.config.net.sock_recv_buffer_size_out INT 256K
{code}
on my box reduces throughput to a (fast, local) Origin by about 1000x.
Throughput went from 18MB/sec to 15KB/sec. Removing this setting, restored
normal performance.
