Ok, I ported this over to the master branch. For future reference, all new
development happens on master and not in the release branches. See our [Release
Management
page|https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/TS/Release+Management] in the
wiki.
This will end up in 5.1.x and future releases (until we replace with libck). If
you want to backport to 5.0.x you will need to add that to this ticket and then
the release manager for that branch will decide if he wants to backport it.
