I'll have to review this properly, but an initial thought is that maybe
this should be part of the gzip plugin? Maybe that plugin gets renamed to
"compression" or something? It has plumbing for other things such as
configuration, hook management, running as a remap plugin etc. It'd then be
easy to just add a new configuration option for specify the compression
algorithm to use.
I ok with landing things as "examples" though, with the expectation that
someone would either use it for building real plugins, or incorporating with
existing plugins later.
