I think snapshots are a bit of a dead feature. AFAIK there's no way to revert 
to a snapshot, list snapshots or do anything useful with them. Doing those 
things might be interesting but not sure that we would have anyone interested 
in working on that. At minimum, when config modification is disables, we ought 
to disable snapshotting.
