some responses:
I can reorganize things between external/internals in my next revision to make
things clearer.
Dealing with out of date information. Footnote 4 was written to cover this
issue. As you notice, it is TBD. There are several ways to handle this and
would be interested in what others think. As usual, it is a cost versus
benefit solution.
For example - detecting:
-- HIVE supports a last update timestamp that we could use to compare and
decide whether to refresh - need to see what is actually does and how expensive
it is to obtain. Plus we are not maintaining our redef timestamps in Trafodion.
-- We could, at each compilation (or every x compilations) compare the
information from Trafodion with Hive and error out if they differ.
-- We could run some kind of health check that periodically performs this
operation and, at a minimum, notify the sysadm that there is a difference that
needs to be addressed
-- and others . . .
Initially, we need a way of detecting. If we want to be a self-healing system,
then some differences can automatically be fixed.
Not sure what the concern is about setting the catalog name to Trafodion.
Trafodion only supports one catalog (or database) called TRAFODION. The HIVE
catalog name indicates that the table is not part of Trafodion but is found in
the HIVE metadata.
